The New Policy wizard helps you create a new Folder Archiving policy. A folder policy contains settings that are to be applied to specific folders. These settings override volume policy settings.
Select the properties that you want to set, as follows:
. To specify the Retention Category that is used for all items that are archived under this new policy.
. To specify whether Enterprise Vault is to leave shortcuts to files that it archives under this policy. If you choose to leave a shortcut, the wizard gives you the choice of Internet shortcuts and placeholder shortcuts.
Internet shortcuts have a suffix of .url, which means that, for example, files that are links to Word documents do not appear as .doc files. Also, when a user opens an Internet shortcut from within an application, the shortcut file itself is opened, not the archived file.
Placeholder shortcuts behave exactly as the original files. They have the same file extension as the original. When a user opens a placeholder shortcut, the original file is automatically retrieved.
In order to use placeholder shortcuts the required conditions must be met. For details on configuring file servers for placeholder shortcuts, see the Installing and Configuring manual.
The time at which Enterprise Vault creates shortcuts depends on the following:
. To control which files are archived and, equally important, which files are not archived.
. When Enterprise Vault archives a file, the version stored in the archive is given the same permissions as the folder that contained the original file. This option enables you to control whether files with explicit permissions are archived.
If you choose to omit some of these properties, you can edit them later by editing the folder policy's properties.
