. Select this option to configure pass-through recall with placeholder shortcuts. On receipt of a read request for a placeholder, Enterprise Vault then passes data directly to the calling application. Enterprise Vault recalls the file to the file server, subject to permissions, only for a write request: for example, if the calling application requires a writeable file, or if the user attempts to save changes to the file.
You may want to configure pass-through recall when you have placeholders on a read-only file system, such as a file system snapshot. A normal placeholder recall fails for a read-only file system because Enterprise Vault cannot write the recalled file to the file system.
Note: |
For NetApp file servers, the pass-through recall feature works only with read-only file systems. Pass-through recall is ignored for read-write file systems. |
Enterprise Vault requires a disk cache for the pass-through recall feature when it recalls larger files, to reduce recall times. For NetApp file servers you must use the cache that is defined in the properties of the Enterprise Vault server. You must configure this cache if it is not already present, otherwise pass-through recall fails.
To configure the Enterprise Vault server cache, perform the following steps in the order shown:
In the left pane of the Administration Console, expand the Enterprise Vault site hierarchy until the container is visible.
Right-click the Enterprise Vault Server whose File System Archiving task manages the archiving from the NetApp file server, and then click on the shortcut menu.
If a suitable cache is not already configured, configure one now. For more information on the cache settings, click Help on the dialog.
