Vault Store Properties: Sharing

Vault Store Group. The name of the vault store group to which the vault store belongs.

Sharing level. The current sharing level for the vault store. To change sharing levels, select the Sharing tab on the properties of the vault store group, and click Configure Sharing.

Connectivity Test. Click Connectivity Test to run the connectivity test. The test helps to determine whether network connectivity is sufficient to provide acceptable sharing performance within the vault store group.

When you run the connectivity test from the vault store properties, the test assesses network performance over a number of connections. Table: Tested connections lists the source and the destination of each connection that is tested.

Table: Tested connections

Source

Destination

The Enterprise Vault server whose Storage service manages a randomly selected vault store in the vault store group.

The computer that hosts the open partition of the vault store.

If the test cannot find an open partition, it looks for a ready partition or a closed partition. If no partitions are detected, this connection is not tested.

Note:

If the computer that hosts the partition is an EMC Centera device, the test looks for a partition that is hosted on a different device. This connection is not tested if all the partitions are hosted on Centera.

The Enterprise Vault server whose Storage service manages the vault store.

The computer that hosts the SQL Server for the vault store group's fingerprint database.

Note:

This connection is not tested if the vault store group does not have a fingerprint database.

To assess network performance, the test measures the average round-trip response time for a number of ping requests over each connection.

Connectivity test progress. The progress indicator shows the progress of the test.

Results. For each tested connection the results show the source computer, the destination computer, and the connectivity rating.

The connectivity rating is one of the following::

If the test generates a Bad or Very Bad connectivity rating, there is an option to cancel the rest of the test.

Enterprise Vault logs a summary of Bad, Very Bad, and Not Tested results in the event log.

Report. Click Report to view a report on the connectivity test. The report provides more detail on the source and destination for each tested connection. Click Copy to Clipboard on the report dialog to copy the test results to the clipboard, from where you can paste them into a text file.

If the test results are satisfactory, click Next to continue.

Note:

If the test results include Bad or Very Bad connectivity ratings, the sharing performance is likely to be unacceptable. Correct your network performance, or change the vault store sharing levels.
