. The task archives eligible items from the mailboxes that it processes. It also does the following, depending on settings in the Exchange Mailbox Policy:
Updates the location of archived items in the archive if their shortcuts have been moved or copied to a different folder. If the new location is configured to use a shared archive, Enterprise Vault creates a copy of the item in that archive. It leaves a copy in the original archive even if the item's shortcut was moved, rather than copied.
Updates the retention categories of archived items, if the retention categories have changed. If Enterprise Vault makes a copy of the item and the new location has a different retention category, it applies this retention category to the copy.
Deletes shortcuts to items that have been deleted by Storage Expiry. If you are using Storage Expiry, we recommend that you run shortcut processing just after Storage Expiry finishes.
Deletes orphaned shortcuts. These are items that have been deleted from an archive, typically by a user.
The task produces a
report that shows information about each folder that contains items
that have had their location or retention category updated. The
report file is in the Reports\Exchange
Mailbox Archiving
subfolder of the Enterprise Vault
installation folder (normally C:\Program
Files\Enterprise Vault\Reports\Exchange Mailbox
Archiving
).
