File Properties: General

Holding file. This is the path to the copy of the PST file when it is in the holding area. This is shown when the PST file has been collected and remains even when the migration is complete.

Migration status. This can be one of the following:

Not ready

There is not enough information to migrate the PST file. You must edit the properties of the PST file to supply the required details, and then change the Migration status.

Do not migrate

This is the normal state when a PST file has been found. When you are ready for the PST file to be migrated you must manually change the state to Ready to copy by editing the properties of the PST file.

Ready to copy

Enterprise Vault is ready to copy the file from the user's computer to the holding area.

Copying

The PST file is being copied from the user's computer to the holding area.

Copy failed

The PST file could not be copied from the user's computer to the holding area. This may have been caused by a transient problem, such as the user shutting down the computer. You can try this operation again by changing the status to Ready to copy.

Ready to back up

The PST file has been copied from the user's computer to the holding area and is waiting to be backed up. The migrator task does not migrate the file until a status change or attribute change indicates that backup is complete. That is, the migration status must change to Ready to migrate, or the file attribute Ready for archiving must be reset. You can change this by editing Wait for PSTs to be backed up before migrating them on the Settings tab of the Collector Task properties.

Backing up

This status is for your own use. It is never set by Enterprise Vault.

Backup failed

This status is for your own use. It is never set by Enterprise Vault.

Ready to migrate

The PST file is waiting to be processed by the Migrator Task.

Migrating

The contents of the PST file are being migrated into the target archive.

A PST file that shows this status for long periods may have failed migration. In this case, change the file's status to Migration failed and apply the changes. Subsequently, you can change the file's status to Ready to migrate to retry the migration.

Migration failed

There was a problem with the migration. Some or all of the items in the PST file have not been migrated. This could happen if, for example, the PST file is password protected.

You need to take action to fix the problem. In the Administration Console, examine the PST file's properties to view the Failure text, which helps you determine the cause of the failure.

Ready for post-processing

The contents of the PST file have been migrated to the target archive.

Completing

The contents of the PST file have been migrated to the target archive. The Migrator Task is performing any post-processing that may be required, such as copying the PST file back to the user's computer.

The main reasons why a PST file may remain in a Completing state are as follows:

  • The original location of the PST is unavailable. This could mean, for example, that the PST file cannot be deleted.

  • The PST is to be deleted but the vault store setting Remove safety copies is set to After backup. Since the PST file is the safety copy in this case, it is not deleted until after the vault store has been backed up.

Complete

The migration is complete:

  • The PST file has been deleted from the holding area.

  • If you have chosen to copy the PST file back to the user's computer then that has been done.

  • If you have chosen to have the PST file removed from the user's profile then that is done when the user next starts Outlook.

Completion failed

You need to take action to fix the problem. In the Administration Console, examine the PST file's properties to view the Failure text, which helps you determine the cause of the failure.

Mailbox. The mailbox with which the Destination archive is associated.

Destination archive. The archive to which the contents of the PST file are migrated.

File size. The size of the PST file before migration.

Retry count. The number of times that PST Migrator has tried to copy this PST file.

File size: The size of the PST file before migration.

Retry count: The number of times that PST Migrator has tried to copy this PST file.

Failure text. If the PST file has failed migration, this shows the text of the error. You may need to fix the problem before the PST file can be migrated.
