This page lists one or more statements that describe options for the chosen storage device. Select or clear the check boxes to indicate how the storage device is configured to store data for this volume. Enterprise Vault uses this information to help optimize data storage.
Note: |
Ensure that these settings reflect the behavior of the storage device. If you change the storage settings on the device, update the following settings to reflect the new behavior. |
The page shows only the statements from the following list that relate to the chosen storage device:
. Select the check box if the WORM device is configured to allow the extension of retention periods.
If this check box is selected, then on request Enterprise Vault attempts to extend the item's retention period as stored on the device.
. Some devices can deduplicate data by storing a single copy of identical data blocks that different applications create. For example, Enterprise Vault and a backup application might create identical data blocks.
If this check box is selected Enterprise Vault writes files in their native uncompressed format, which is a prerequisite for deduplication. You therefore lose the storage savings that Enterprise Vault compression normally provides. We therefore recommend that you select the check box only if all of the following conditions apply:
Otherwise the storage savings are likely to be greater if Enterprise Vault writes the files in compressed format.
. Select the check box only if the device is configured to compress data.
If this check box is selected, Enterprise Vault does not compress data. If both Enterprise Vault and the device perform data compression there may be a considerable waste of CPU usage, and storage sizes may even increase.
