Directory Properties: Exchange Message Classes

The list shows those message classes that are known to Enterprise Vault.

This list does not define the message classes that Enterprise Vault archives. The list shows the message classes that are available for selection in Enterprise Vault Exchange policies. To control which message classes are archived during an archiving run, you need to select the required message classes in the Message Classes property page of individual archiving policies.

Users can manually archive items from any message class, not just those that are listed here.

If you want to prevent Enterprise Vault from archiving a specific message class during an archiving run, add it to this list and make sure that it is not selected in the Exchange archiving policies.

If the message class is selected in an archiving policy, Enterprise Vault archives items whose message classes match the text listed. You can use a trailing asterisk as a wildcard. For example, a message class of IPM* would include IPM.Appointment, IPM.Contact, IPM.Document, and so on.

You may have additional message classes that you want Enterprise Vault to archive; for example, the message class associated with a custom Exchange form. First add the message class to this list. You can then edit the required Exchange archiving policies, and select the check box for each new message class in the Message Classes property page.

You can use Outlook to discover the message class associated with an Exchange form.

To find out the message class associated with an Exchange form

  1. Log in to Outlook.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  3. Click the Other tab.

  4. Click Advanced Options.

  5. Click Custom Forms, and then click Manage Forms.

  6. Double-click the appropriate form to display its properties.

  7. Look at the message class IPM.* in the Form Properties dialog box to find out the message class details. This is the information that you use to add the message class to the Exchange message class list in Enterprise Vault Directory properties.
