When Enterprise Vault archives an item, it makes a safety copy as part of the archiving process. The value you set here determines how soon Enterprise Vault deletes this safety copy.
For a normal production system, set this to one of the following:
. Enterprise Vault does not delete the safety copy until the appropriate vault store has been backed up.
. Enterprise Vault deletes the safety copy immediately when journaling, but for other archive types it deletes the safety copy after the appropriate vault store has been backed up. This lets you archive mailbox and journal items to the same vault store, thus benefiting from single-instance storage, while at the same time having different options for deleting safety copies.
Single-instance storage occurs across vault stores on Centera partitions so, when all partitions are on Centera, it is not necessary to use the same vault store for journal and mailbox items to achieve single-instance storage.
If you intend to use a Centera device for the new vault store, "After backup" really means "After replication", so if you use Centera replication, select .
If you intend this new vault store to have a partition on a NetApp SnapLock WORM device, select and see Backing up vault stores for details of how to use a trigger file to indicate that backups are complete.
