When Enterprise Vault archives from a file server, it can leave behind shortcuts to the files that have been archived.
. This is a .url text file containing a hypertext link to the archived file.
. This is a special file that appears exactly as the original file but, when opened, forces Enterprise Vault to fetch the archived file.
In order to use placeholder shortcuts the required conditions must be met:
For NTFS servers, the FSA Agent must be installed on the file server. The volume must be an NTFS device; it is not sufficient to use a non-NTFS device that appears on the network as an NTFS device. The volume must represent a complete partition.
For NetApp Filer devices, Data ONTAP 7.0 or later is required. You must give the Vault Service account administrative permissions on the file server.
For EMC Celerra devices, you must enable the filemover functionality on the Celerra and create an HTTP connection.
For more details on configuring servers for placeholder shortcuts, see Setting up File System Archiving.
. Select this to make Enterprise Vault delete archived files when their corresponding placeholders are deleted. For this setting to take effect with NTFS and NetApp file servers, must be selected on the tab in the properties of the file server.
Deletion and recall of placeholders requires the appropriate permissions on the file server volume.
