. Enter the path to a folder in which you want to place the new vault store partition data. The path may be one of the following:
Alternatively, click and choose a folder.
Note the following:
If you selected the default location is shown for the selected volume.
You cannot easily move a partition. Choose the location carefully.
Ensure that you choose a folder whose configuration matches the storage settings for the chosen device.
Enterprise Vault cannot create a partition at the top level of a device or at a share point. You must specify a folder. For example, you cannot specify \\myserver\Enterprise Vault Stores if it is a share point. You can, however, create a Ptn1 folder and specify \\myserver\Enterprise Vault Stores\Ptn1
Do not specify the location of an existing partition, or a location that includes any folders that are associated with an existing partition. Take particular care to avoid the overlap of partition folders when using network shares or mount points. You may suffer data loss if any folder is associated with more than one partition.
The Storage service does not start if it detects that two partitions share the same path.
Enterprise Vault assumes that the partition root path is empty. Do not use the root path to hold files or folders other than those that Enterprise Vault creates.
. The wizard lists one or more statements that relate to options for the chosen storage device. Select or clear the check boxes to indicate how the storage device is configured to store data for this volume. Enterprise Vault uses this information to help optimize data storage.
The wizard shows only the statements from the following list that relate to the chosen storage device:
< | | > . Select the check box if the device is configured to store data in the mode indicated.
If this check box is selected, Enterprise Vault writes the data in a WORM (Write Once Read Many) state.
. Select the check box if the WORM device is configured to allow the extension of retention periods.
If this check box is selected, then on request Enterprise Vault attempts to extend the item's retention period as stored on the device.
. Some devices can deduplicate data by storing a single copy of identical data blocks that different applications create. For example, Enterprise Vault and a backup application might create identical data blocks.
If this check box is selected Enterprise Vault writes files in their native uncompressed format, which is a prerequisite for deduplication. You therefore lose the storage savings that Enterprise Vault compression normally provides. We therefore recommend that you select the check box only if all of the following conditions apply:
Otherwise the storage savings are likely to be greater if Enterprise Vault writes the files in compressed format.
. Select the check box only if the device is configured to compress data.
If this check box is selected, Enterprise Vault does not compress data. If both Enterprise Vault and the device perform data compression there may be a considerable waste of CPU usage, and storage sizes may even increase.
With the exception of the storage mode, you can change the storage settings later from the Volume tab of the partition's properties.
Note: |
If you change the storage settings on the device at a later date, you must update the related storage settings on the Volume tab of the partition's properties to reflect the new behavior. |
When you have specified a location for the partition and the storage settings used by your storage device, click to continue.
