This can be useful if you want to use a different policy for a particular folder, and perhaps its subfolders, from the policy that applies to the whole volume.
. Select this to prevent Enterprise Vault applying the volume policy rules if a file is not matched by the folder policy rules. You might do this if, for example, the volume policy sets quota-based archiving, which will be applied, but also defines rules that you do not want to use in this folder policy.
. To apply a Retention Folder policy instead of a volume or folder policy, select this and choose a Retention Folder policy from the list. The Retention Folder policy defines a folder hierarchy to retain beneath the folder. The contents of each folder in the hierarchy are archived according to the Retention Folder policy.
