Enable Archiving for Mailboxes

When you enable archiving for a mailbox, Enterprise Vault creates an archive for it in the vault store that you specify. You must enable a mailbox before Enterprise Vault can start archiving items from that mailbox.

You can also disable archiving for a mailbox, in which case Enterprise Vault stops archiving items from that mailbox. You can enable the mailbox again later if you want.

This wizard lets you enable archiving for mailboxes individually or by group.

When you enable archiving for a mailbox, Enterprise Vault automatically creates an archive for that mailbox. As part of this wizard you select the vault store to contain the new archive.

A mailbox could be either of the following:

All the mailboxes that you select when running this wizard are archived to archives in the same vault store. If you want to archive some mailboxes in other vault stores, run this wizard again for those other mailboxes.

You can select just one vault store each time you run this wizard. The effect of this is that all the mailboxes you enable have archives in the same vault store. If this is not what you want, run the wizard again for mailboxes that you want archived in a different vault store.

Note:

When you enable a mailbox, Enterprise Vault automatically selects one of the open Indexing Locations to use to store the indexing data associated with that mailbox's archive. Before you enable mailboxes, make sure that the open Indexing Locations are the ones you want to use. Enterprise Vault does not provide a way to change a mailbox's Indexing Location after you have enabled archiving for the mailbox.

On which server are the mailboxes located. Select the Microsoft Exchange Server computer that has the mailboxes you want to enable and then click Next.
