Results of the migration process

The screen shows the results of the migration process. If you chose to create a report file, then you can now click Open Report File to print a record of the results.

Look through the results to check for errors. See below for information about failed PST files and failed items.

If you do find errors, there may be more information in the Event Log. Click Launch Event Viewer if you want to check the Application Event Log entries.

If you want to save the results text, select it all and copy it to the Windows Clipboard. You can then paste it into your own document.

Click Close when you have finished checking the results.

This table gives some reasons why migration may have failed for some PST files, or some items within the files:

PST files have failed

The most likely reasons for a PST file failing are as follows:

  • Because the permissions were not set correctly. The solution is to correct the error and reprocess the file.

  • Because the mailbox does not have enough space to migrate all the items in the PST. The report tells you how much extra space is needed. Increase the mailbox limits as shown in the report and then migrate the PST again.

  • Because the PST is password protected. The solution is to use Outlook to open the PST file, remove the password protection, and then reprocess the file.

If you have corrected errors and want to try reprocessing the failed PST files, click Back and then click Next. PST Migrator tries to process the failed PST files and updates the results text

Items within PST files have failed

PST Migrator moves all items that fail into a top-level folder called PST Migration Failed Items in the PST file. Within this folder, it maintains the original folder structure.

PST Migrator ignores all items in the PST Migration Failed Items folder, so you cannot migrate such items unless you first move them to another folder.

You could try moving failed items to a normal mailbox and then manually archiving them from there.

There is a summary Application Event Log entry for each PST file that is migrated. The entry lists the number of items that have been archived and also the number of items that have been moved to the mailbox. Some items may not be archived or moved to the mailbox, as follows:
