Exchange Desktop Policy: Vault Cache

Use these settings to control the following:

The availability of Vault Cache and Virtual Vault for Outlook
The size and the available features of Vault Cache

Make Vault Cache available for users. Select this setting to make Vault Cache for Outlook available in this Enterprise Vault site. If you clear this setting, no new Vault Caches are created. Users have access to existing Vault Caches, but Enterprise Vault adds no items to those caches.

Automatically enable. Select this setting to enable Vault Cache for Outlook automatically for all offline users.
Allow users to decide. Select this setting to allow users to enable Vault Cache for Outlook. This setting makes available the Enable Vault Cache option from Tools > Enterprise Vault > Vault Cache Options.

Limit size of Vault Cache:

Use these settings to specify how to limit the size of a Vault Cache. If a Vault Cache reaches the specified size, the oldest items are automatically deleted to make room for new items. The space is not allocated until it is needed.

Maximum use of initial free space. Select this setting and specify a percentage to limit the maximum size for a Vault Cache as a percentage of the unused disk space that is available when the Vault Cache is created.
Maximum size. Select this setting and specify a value to limit the maximum size for a Vault Cache as a size in gigabytes. The maximum allowed value is 999 GB.
Content strategy. Select an option from this menu to specify the strategy for storage of the content of archived items in Vault Cache. The options are as follows:
- Do not store any items in cache. Item headers are synchronized to Vault Cache, but the content of archived items is not stored in Vault Cache. If a user opens an item in Virtual Vault, or selects an item when the Reading Pane is open, Enterprise Vault immediately retrieves the content. With this option, the item's content is not stored in Vault Cache even after the content is retrieved.
- Store all items. This option is the default. Item headers are synchronized to Vault Cache and the content of archived items is stored in Vault Cache.
- Store only items that user opens. This option is similar to Do not store any items in cache. Item headers are synchronized to Vault Cache, but the content of archived items is not automatically stored in Vault Cache. The difference is that with this option, the content of each item that a user opens in Virtual Vault is stored in Vault Cache.

Features:

Use these settings to control whether Vault Cache menu options and toolbar buttons are available on Outlook clients.

Synchronize Vault Cache. Controls whether the Outlook client shows options for users to update Vault Cache manually:
- Select Enabled to show the Synchronize Vault Cache menu option.
- Select On Toolbar to show the Synchronize Vault Cache toolbar button

Vault Cache properties. Choose whether the Outlook client shows the Tools > Enterprise Vault > Vault Cache properties menu option.
- Vault Cache options. Select Enabled to display the Options page in the Vault Cache properties.
- Vault Cache details. Select Enabled to display the Details page in the Vault Cache properties.
Make Virtual Vault available to users. Select Enabled to make Virtual Vault available to Outlook users.
