Types of Groups

Computer groups are unique to each configuration. Groups within a configuration are candidates for policy deployment. Computers from multiple Remote Servers can be members of a group in Enterprise Manager.

The following types of groups can be created in Enterprise Manager:

Name of Group

Description

Use this Type of Group to...

All Static Computers

Repository of computers that can be used in Static Groups (see below) within the Configuration. Only computers that are members of this group can be used to create a Static Group.

All Static Computers is not a group to which you can assign policies or perform other Enterprise Manager operations. However it appears at the top of the list of Groups and lists the names of computers that may be used in Static groups.

Create a Static Group (see below).

Static Group

Computers that are manually added and maintained by the administrator. Similar to computer groups in Command Center.

Maintain a list of computers that will not change, unless manually done so by the administrator.

Query Group

Computers that are selected by SQL queries. This is a dynamic group, so each time the group is used, the query is rerun.

Find all computers with a certain characteristic, and get updated results each time you view the group.

DS Link Group

Computers obtained from Microsoft Active Directory "Users and Computers" snapin.  This is a dynamic group, so each time the group is opened the query is rerun against Active Directory.

Query computers that are members of Active Directory, and get updated results of the query each time you view the group.

Summation Group

Aggregations of other groups that can be set to be included or excluded from the Summation group. All types of groups can be used to create Summation groups.

Create Groups that are aggregates of all other Groups.
