Configurations are separate instances of the Enterprise Manager database, or separate workspaces. The information within a configuration pertains only to other information within that configuration. For example, the policies within a configuration can only be applied to groups of computers that are part of that configuration.
Warning: Enterprise Manager contains a default configuration named ConfigTemplate. Do not make your changes in ConfigTemplate. Instead, clone ConfigTemplate, which creates a new configuration. Rename the new configuration and make your changes in the new configuration.
