Security translation is the process of adding the target user’s security identifier (SID) to access control lists (ACLs) on the resources that the source user had access to before migration. You can run the Service Translation Wizard in the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) to change security identifiers (SIDs) on access control lists (ACLs) and system access control lists (SACLs) on migrated objects.

Note

Security translation occurs while the Computer Migration Wizard runs, but only for accounts and objects that belong to the same domain as the migrated computer. You can run the Security Translation Wizard to change the ACLs of accounts and objects that do not belong to the domain for the migrated computer.
