The Password Options page of the User Account Migration Wizard specifies how you can assign passwords to migrated user accounts using the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT).
The Password Options page has the following options:
- Generate complex passwords
Select this option to generate a complex password automatically for each user account that you migrate. A complex password has a combination of uppercase letters and lowercase letters, as well as numbers and punctuation. ADMT records the new passwords in a password file.
If you click Generate complex passwords, in Location to store password file, type or browse to the location where you want to store the password file.
- Migrate passwords
Select this option to migrate the original passwords from the source domain to the target domain. Before you click this option, be sure to complete all prerequisite setup tasks. For more information about how to configure your environment to migrate passwords, see the ADMT Guide: Migrating and Restructuring Active Directory Domains (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=93678).
If you click Migrate passwords, ADMT prompts you to specify the source domain controller that hosts the Password Export Server or select the domain controller from the list.
- Do not update passwords for existing
users
Select this option if you want to update passwords only for user objects that are created during the current migration—passwords are not updated for user objects that already exist in the target domain. If you do not select this option, ADMT updates the passwords for all user objects unless the source user object's password has not changed since the last time that the password was migrated.
Note When you use the User Account Migration Wizard to migrate service accounts, a complex password is generated automatically, regardless of the option that you select on this page of the wizard. ADMT generates a complex password even if you select Do not update passwords for existing users.
