Before you integrate Consistent and Cooperative Mode computers into CCM, make sure that the computer has only one network adapter. CCM relies on the presence of a single NIC to identify the computer.
You also need to know how the network environment will be configured.
Is it an Ethernet or Token Ring network environment?
Is it BOOTP or DHCP?
Your organization may have either a BOOTP or a DHCP environment. You can set up CCM computers within either of those environments.
A BOOTP environment limits you to a maximum number of 255 PCs on a subnet. BOOTP also requires that you keep track of the IP address for all the computers on the server.
A DHCP environment assigns IP addresses on demand, allowing a greater number of computers on a subnet and eliminating the need to track the IP address of each computer. In a DHCP environment, you can set up more than one DHCP server to manage computers on multiple CCM Configuration Servers.
Before you begin adding computers to a CCM server in a DHCP environment make sure that:
You have installed the CCM Pre-OS Locator service on a CCM Configuration Server, on a stand-alone server, on a DHCP server.
The ccmlocator.lst file resides on the server with the CCM Pre-OS Locator service and you have edited it to list either the name or ID number of all CCM servers that the server supports.
