Deploy Packages from Vendor File Depots

When deploying packages, you can use Vendor File Depots to reduce long-distance network traffic and to enable mobile computers to install packages while offline.

In order to access different vendor file depot areas, you must set the following parameters in the CCM Windows Agent Settings package.

The CCM Windows Agent searches for a Vendor File Depot based on the these parameter settings on the computer.

The values you set in the CCM Windows Agent Settings package overwrite the values that were set for these parameters when you first installed the CCM Windows Agent. The next time you assign a package to the computer, the CCM Windows Agent searches for the package files in the Vendor File Depot.

To set a computer to access a Vendor File Depot:

  1. Deploy the CCM Windows Agent Settings package to the selected computer.

  1. Set the following parameter values for searching for substitute depots.

Parameter

Description

UNC path or local path to depot

Specifies a UNC path to a depot on a local server in the LAN or to a disk/directory of the computer. Multiple paths may be specified by separating them with a semicolon ( ; ).

Search Locations

Specifies the locations where the Windows Agent needs to look for vendor files — CD-ROM, floppy disk, hard drive, or local server.

To search local servers, specify the Search Location parameter as one of the following:

  • Local servers from UNC path,

  • Local floppy, hard disks and local servers, or

  • Local CD drives and local servers,

and enter a semi-colon separated list of UNC paths in the UNC path to local server parameter. Local server also includes a depot on a mobile computer’s hard disk.

If you set the value of the Search Location parameter to one of the following:

  • Local floppy and hard disks,

  • Local CD drives, or

  • Local floppy, hard disks and CD drives,

the search for vendor files starts in the root directories of the local floppy, hard disks, and CD drives using any path information included in the execution statement.

Search Priority

Specifies the order in which the different locations are searched by the Windows Agent.
