Managed computers are the employee workstations where CCM tasks are performed. Each computer is associated with a single CCM Configuration server. The computer queries the server to discover what tasks it is scheduled to perform, and downloads the tools it requires to perform the task.
The following CCM Agents reside on each managed computer:
The CCM Boot Agent is responsible for establishing communication with the CCM Configuration server in order to determine the value of the computer’s net boot flag. If this flag is not set, a local boot from the hard drive is initiated. Otherwise, the CCM Boot Agent downloads and launches the CCM Pre-OS Agent.
The CCM Pre-OS Agent runs on a computer before an operating system is installed, if the computer's net boot flag is set. The agent controls critical functions such as creating a RAM disk environment, establishing an IP stack for further downloads, partitioning and formatting the hard disk, and then installing and configuring the operating system.
The CCM Windows Agent controls the execution of software installation, action, and configuration packages on the computer, and communicates status and error information to the server.
The CCM AutoDiscover Agent is manually installed on a computer, communicates with the AutoDiscover Service, and reports the configuration information about the computer on which the agent resides. After the computer has been identified on the CCM server, the AutoDiscover Agent activates the CCM Windows Agent.
