Media containing ARCserve backups can be overwritten; however, backup append jobs are not supported. All Backup Exec media utility functions can be performed on ARCserve media.
To restore data from ARCserve media
Catalog all the tapes included in the ARCserve backup.
During cataloging, Backup Exec reports file formats that it can read. Files that cannot be read do not appear in the catalogs. The media description that appears in the Backup Exec catalog comes from the session description used by ARCserve.
Media-based catalogs are not supported on tapes created by other vendors' backup products. Because of this, cataloging ARCserve tapes takes considerably longer than cataloging a tape made with Backup Exec.
Restore selected data to a server or workstation.
Due to the naming conventions ARCserve uses for some systems, it may be necessary to select a different location for the data using Backup Exec's File Redirection.
