Installing the VSS Provider

The Symantec VSS Provider, which lets you fully protect VSS-aware applications, is installed from the Backup Exec installation CD.

To install the VSS Provider

  1. Browse the Backup Exec installation CD to the BE VSS Provider directory.

  2. Copy the .iso image to the ESX server.

  3. Mount this .iso image to each virtual machine to which you want to install the VSS Provider.

  4. From the virtual machine, open the CD-ROM, and then run BEVSSProvider.msi.

  5. Do one of the following:

    • If you do not have Pre-freeze-script.bat or Post-thaw-script.bat files in your system root directory, copy these files from C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\BE VSS Provider to the system root directory.

    • If you have Pre-freeze-script.bat or Post-thaw-script.bat files files in your system root directory, merge the contents of the scripts from the C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\BE VSS Provider directory to your existing scripts.
