The following items are required to use the Agent for Microsoft Virtual Servers:

Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 or later
Microsoft Server 2008 Hyper-V

Virtual server host

Note:

If you are using Hyper-V, you must enable the Hyper-V role on the Hyper-V Parent Partition.

Backup Exec for Windows Servers

Media server

Agent for Microsoft Virtual Servers

Microsoft virtual server

VHDmounter

Media server if the media server is not the virtual server

To run an online backup on Microsoft Windows Server 2003/Server 2008/Vista , the following requirements must be met:

Virtual Machine Additions version 13.715 or later is installed on the virtual machine.
The virtual machine is in a running state.

To run an online backup if you use Hyper-V, the following requirements must be met:

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64/2003 SP2/Vista SP1/XP SP3 is installed on the virtual machine.
Integration Servers with Backup (Volume snapshot) is installed.
The virtual machine is in a running state.

If these conditions are not met, the virtual machine is backed up offline.

If you want to use Symantec's Granular Recovery Technology (GRT), you must install the Remote Agent for Windows Systems on the virtual machine that you want to restore to.
