Computer name - ”the computer name is an identical (and
constant) value”
Unique number - The computer’s unique identification number is
generated at the first data scan (the identification number is
generated by SCAN.EXE /I)
MAC address - The network adapter number
IDE hard disk serial number - ”The hard disk number is an
identical (and constant) value”
Win32_BaseBoard.SerialNumber - WMI property (S/N of the
computer)
Win32_BIOS.SerialNumber - WMI property (S/N of the
computer)
Win32_SystemEnclosure.SMBIOSAssetTag - WMI property (optional
value, writable in the bios)
Uniqueness of names
Across all domains - A particular defined computer name can
only exist for one computer throughout the whole system at one
time
Within a domain - A defined computer name must be unique in any
domain
Discovery - The computers’ automatic addition methods
Always add local computer - automatically detect and add local
computer name and add it into the Computer’s window when starting
the Console
Communicate via IP address - use as connection string
computer’s IP instead of the netbios name (possible only for static
IP address marked PC’s)
