Scope of Query

The scope of a query is determined by the object to which you bind. To query across all objects within an enterprise, bind to the global catalog service. Alternatively, you can bind to a specific domain to scope the search to a more narrow range.

To identify whether a computer is running the global catalog service

1. From the Start Menu, go to Admin, Active Directory Sites, and select Services Manager.
2. Select sites, default, first-site name. In servers, select YOURCOMPUTERNAME-ntds settings.
3. Right-click Select Properties. Verify that the Global Catalog check box is selected.
