inheritance

The ability to define new object classes from existing object classes. For more information, see Class Inheritance in the Active Directory Schema.

Active Directory also supports inheritance of security protections, which enables an administrator to specify access control settings on a directory object such that the settings can be inherited by child objects below the parent object in the directory hierarchy.
